Introduction

Yiu On Workshop is the first sheltered workshop of Stewards. It was founded in 1988. According to the service development, the centre was renamed as Yiu On Integrated Rehabilitation Services Centre since 2004. Our services include Vocational training, Supported Employment Service, Work Extension Program and Commercial-hired Transport Service for People with Disabilities.

We strive to provide quality work training, and according to their wishes, interest, ability and psychological status, we match up the most suitable training for them and facilitate them to develop potentials. We also make effort to facilitate them to reintegrate in the community through various interventions.


1. Integrated Vocational Rehabilitation Service Cenre (IVRSC)


Objective

To provide people with disabilities who are not able to enter into open employment with appropriate work training in a specially designed environment in order to help them develop their social and economic potential; and to enhance their working capacity in order that they can move on to supported or open employment wherever possible.


Type of Trainings

Include Assembling & Packaging, Letter and Mail Shopping, Delivery, Clerical training, Courier training,Catering training, Handicraft Making, Florist training and Cleaning training.


Service Content

  1. Provide quality and healthy lunch meal
  2. Case counseling and referral
  3. Medical care and support
  4. Social and Recreational groups and Programs
  5. Spiritual group and programs


Target

People with disabilities who are aged 15 or above in need of vocational training or support to take up open employment.

(*There is no employer-employee relationship between service users and center)


Application

Referrals can be made by School Social Workers, Medical Social Workers, Family Caseworkers and Staff of rehabilitation service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services, Social Welfare Department.


Withdrawal

Service users can make request to Social Workers, and the application would be success once the withdrawal procedure is completed.

2. Integrated Vocational Supported Employment Service (IVSE)

 

Objective

Provide employment-related skills training and supports to persons with disabilities, include work, social, community living skill training, to enhance their working capability. Also Social Worker and instructor will provide the job matching service and will give support to users for adapting a new job.


Service Content

  1. Work assessment by Social Worker and Occupational Therapist: Assess the work abilities, work competence, work interest and attitude of service users in order to arrange suitable work training for them.
  2. Employment-related skills training: Provide therapy-based training and work training opportunities to service users for increasing their self-confidence and self-efficacy. Besides, interview skills and related skills for job-hunt would be provided.
  3. Job matching and supports: Provide the job matching service and give support to service users for adapting the new working environment.
  4. Activities: Provide regular recreational activities and support groups to service users, facilitate them to enlarge their social life.


Target

People with moderate disablement with working abilities lying between shelter workshop and open employment without support, i.e. the majority of people with moderate grade intellectual disability and those with mild grade intellectual disability coupled with other disabilities ; and

People with moderate disablement with good working abilities but who are unable to adjust to the competitive open job market in the absence of support, i.e. those people with severe physical, sensory, visceral or psychiatric disabilities.

Referrals can be made by School Social Workers, Medical Social Workers, Family Caseworkers and Staff of rehabilitation service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services, Social Welfare Department.


Withdrawal

Service users employed in a full-time job continuously for 6 months with minimum monthly salary $3000 or above, or employed in a part-time job continuously for 6 months with minimum monthly salary $1500 or above can be regard as successful open employment.

Service users can make request to Social Workers, and the application would be success once the withdrawal procedure is completed.

3. Work Extension Program (WEP)
 

Objective

This program aims to meet the service needs of the existing trainees of Yiu On Integrated Rehabilitation Services Centre who could no longer perform normal work tasks due to old age or deterioration in work abilities.


Service Content

Maintain some work training tasks, and to provide social and developmental activities, as well as health care activities to service users, so as to meet their special nursing and health care need.


Target

Service users at the age of 60 or above would be accepted for WEP with no requirement of vocational assessment. For those applicants who are age between 40 to 59 are required to conduct a prior assessment by Occupational Therapists or Physical Therapists.

In need of day care services other than vocational training due to ageing or deterioration in work ability.

4. Commercial-hired Transport Service

 

Introduction

This service is provided to those service users who needs our transport service (who are unable to use public transport and have no alternative means of transport to attend our centre)

There are 30 capacities, and mainly serving those service users who are living in Kowloon East and Shatin. The service charge is according to the instruction of Social Welfare Department.

Applicants can direct apply the service through Social Worker


Withdrawal

Service users can make request to Social Workers, and the application would be success once the withdrawal procedure is completed.
