1. Centre

Introduction

Yiu Tsuen Workshop is the second sheltered workshop of Stewards. It was founded in 13th January 1997. According to the service development, the centre was renamed as Yiu Tsuen Integrated Service Centre since 2006. Until now, these are 150 service users who are receiving services from the Centre.

 

Service Objectives

To provide persons with disabilities who are not able to enter into open employment with appropriate vocational training in a specially designed environment in order to help them develop their social and economic potential; and to enhance their working capacity in order that they can move on to supported or open employment wherever possible.


Type of Trainings

Types of trainings include mail packaging, products fabrication, shrink packing, clerical training, catering training, sale skill training, car cleaning, office cleaning and delivery training etc.

Service Content

  1. Vocational assessment and training
  2. Case counseling and referral
  3. Medical and care support service
  4. Occupational therapy service
  5. Developmental groups, spiritual groups, social and recreational activities


Eligibility for the Service

  1. Person with disabilities who are aged 15 or above
  2. Capable of basic self-care
  3. Stable health and mental conditions with no severe disturbing behavior or infectious disease (e.g. drunk, drug abuse)
  4. Demonstrate to have work motivation / ability

Application

Referrals / applications can be made by medical social workers, school social workersm family caseworkers or other appropriate service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services, Social Welfare Department. The application is free of charge. Interview and job test will be arranged to the applicant after the Centre received the formal application.

 

Withdrawal Procedure

Withdrawal application should be submitted to the Service-in-charge of Centre.

2. Supported Employment Service

 

Introduction

Provide employment-related skills training and supports to persons with disabilities.

 

Service Objectives

To provide support for persons with disabilities in employment and to allow them to work in an integrated open setting with necessary support service.

 

 

Service Content

  1. Work assessment: Assess the work abilities, work competence, work interest and attitude of service users in order to arrange suitable work training for them.
  2. Employment-related skills training: provide regular work training to service users for increasing their self-confidence and self-efficacy. Those work training includes clerical work training, sales skills training, catering training, car-wash training, cleaning training. Besides, interview skills and related skills for job-hunt would be provided.
  3. Job matching and supports: provide supports to service users for adapting the new working environment.
  4. Counseling for supporting service users in workplace.
  5. Recreational activities and support groups.

 

Eligibility for the Service

  1. Ex-mentally ill persons who are aged 15 or above and with good working abilities but who are unable to adjust to the competitive open job market in the absence of support.
  2. Possessing motivation to take up open employment.
  3. Having adequate self-care and daily living skills.
  4. Stable health and mental conditions with no severe disturbing behavior or infectious disease (e.g. drunk, drug abuse).

  1. Referrals / applications can be made by medical social workers, school social workers, family caseworkers or other appropriate service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services, Social Welfare Department. OR
  2. Applicants can contact Centre’s staff and apply the service directly.

3. Work Extension Programme

 

Service Objectives

This programme aims to meet the service needs of the existing trainees of Yiu Tsuen Integrated Service Centre who could no longer perform normal work tasks due to old age or deterioration in work abilities.

Service Content

The Services include work activities for sustaining residual work abilities, social and developmental programmes and caring activities for meeting the health and physical needs of trainees.

Eligibility for the Service

Persons with disabilities who are:

  1. Centre’s trainees who are aged 40 or above (Trainees who aged 60 or above would be accepted for the programme with no requirement of assessment; for those aged 40-59, occupational therapist’s assessment is required); and
  2. In need of day care services other than vocational training due to old age or deterioration in work ability.

Application can be made by Centre’s social workers / and work assessment by occupational therapist. The application is free of charge.
